Winged Emblem S Line

There is a Collins logo on the front panel of the S Line equipment.  The earlier version of this emblem was "winged" while the later version was "round".  It is common terminology to refer to such units as either Winged Emblem (WE) or Round Emblem (RE).  In today's collectors' market RE units sell for quite a bit more than WE units

Below are photos, descriptions, and specifications of the units that comprise this WE S Line.

Unfortunately, I failed to take any nice pictures of my WE 75S3 before shipping it off to Bud Whitney (K7RMT) to have the PTO fixed or replaced.  Below is a photo of the PTO showing that some work had been done on it before I purchased the unit.  I don't think the three disc ceramics in parallel are right and the diode appears to have been changed also.  Whether this was an attempt to solve the problem or is the cause of the problem remains to be seen.  The problem is that the frequency jumps around several hundred hertz while tuning.  At first, I thought it was just the dial slipping, but fixing the dial slippage did not fix this problem.  So off it went.

This is 32S3 serial number 12104. The date codes on all the crystals indicate that it was made in 1965, the same year I graduated from High School.

30L-1 Linear Power Amplifier

This is 30L-1 serial number 17445.  Don't know when it was made but it works like a charm.  My only complaint is that I can only get about 550 watts out of it.  Part of the problem may be that I am not getting full drive from the 32S3.  More investigation to keep me busy!
